The sector

Germany’s chemical industry is the largest exporter of chemical-pharmaceutical products worldwide with an annual turnover of 153 billion. Its growth rate continually exceeds Germany’s overall economic growth rate. The chemical industry in North Rhine-Westphalia contributes a substantial 30% of this turnover. In this sector, the corporate landscape is dominated by large enterprises, of which 50% have over 1000 employees. The entire sector employs approximately 440,000 employees in total.
